VGST-SMYSR (Seed Money to Young Scientist for Research) 2015-16 Awarded to Dr. Khalid Parwez

Group on Science and Technology selected the research proposal submitted by
Dr. Khalid Parwez, Assistant Professor,Department of Biotechnology, P.A.
College of Engineering, Mangalore, for the award of VGST-SMYSR research grant
of INR 04 Lakh.The proposal is approved by the VGST- Chairman, Bharat Ratna,
Prof. C.N.R. Rao and the subcommittee of IT, BT and S&T, Govt. of Karnataka. This scheme provides the funding up to INR04 lakhs for a period
of one year. The proposed research work focuses on “Carbon nanotubes
Reinforced Hydroxyapatite Composite for Biomedical Applications” with the
objective of reinforcing the hydroxyapatite (bone component) with Carbon
Nanotubes with enhanced mechanical properties and improved
biocompatibilities. The organization of CNTs and HA
implemented at the Nanoscale can further be developed in the form of
coatings, nanocomposites, and hybrid powders to enable potential applications
in hard tissue engineering.

Firstly, I would like to thank to the VGST-Chairman, Bharat Ratna, Prof. C.N.R. Rao and the subcommittee of IT, BT and S&T, Govt. of Karnataka for accepting the proposal under SMYSR Scheme, The Chairman of P.A. College of Engineering, Dr. P.A. Ibrahim, the Director Mr. K.M. Haneef and the Executive Director Mr. Abdullah for all the support. I extend my thanks to the staff in P.A. College of Engineering,past and present, Dr. M.A. Hussain, Dr. S.A.
