Empowering Research: Tools, Techniques, and Ethics Unveiled

The Ignited Minds of Electronics (IME) Club, under the Department of Electronics and Communication at PA College of Engineering, Mangalore, hosted an invited talk on “Research Tools and Techniques” in the VLSI Lab on 23rd April, 2025. The programme began with an invocation by Mr. Abdul Azeez (4th Sem) and a welcome address by Ms. Asiyath Safa (4th Sem). Principal Dr. Ramis M. K. then inaugurated the session, underscoring the value of rigorous research and the importance of translating student projects into published papers to enhance both individual scholarship and the institution’s academic standing. Following his address, Ms. Ayishath Shaima (6th Sem) provided a comprehensive introduction to the speaker’s background and credentials.
Dr. Jason Elroy Martis, Associate Professor in the Department of Information Science at NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte, delivered an in-depth presentation on essential research workflows, demonstrating reference management with Mendeley and Zotero; advanced MS Word techniques, including table creation and image insertion; and the ethical dimensions of academic writing, with a focus on avoiding plagiarism, responsibly integrating AI-generated content, and adhering to best practices for citation and referencing. A memento was presented to Dr. Jason by Dr. Asif Hassan, Head of the Department of Electronics & Communication, as a token of appreciation.
The proceedings were ably guided by Ms. Afziya G (6th Sem) as Master of Ceremonies and coordinated by Dr. Asiya Hazareena and Prof. Mohammed Saleem. Vice Principal-Dr. Sharmila Kumari and Prof. Mohammed Hussain were also present during the session, alongside Dr. Asif Hassan, HOD-EC department. Enthusiastic students of the 4th and 6th semesters actively participated in the session. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Mayan Sheik (4th Sem), marking the successful completion of an engaging and informative session that equipped students with practical tools and insights to advance their research endeavours.
