In a concerted effort to address the rising concern of streetside waste dumping in the Balepuni Panchayat area, a community-driven awareness program was held on 26/9/2023 by P. A. College of Engineering, Mangalore.

The program was coordinated by Biotek Pace Forum, Department of Biotechnology, Environmental Cell - Department of Mechanical Engineering, and NSS Unit PACE. Mr. Venkatesh, PDO, Ms. Aysha, Secretary, Mr. Sadananda of Balepuni Panchayat initiated the program by highlighting the consequences of throwing waste along the roadside.

The program began at the Balepuni Panchayat Office with an enlightening session on the environmental and health hazards posed by streetside waste dumping by Dr. Krishna Prasad N, HOD of the Department of Biotechnology Engineering, and Professor Pujar C V, Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Mr. Sheena Shetty and Mr. Krishna Mulya, Ambassadors of Dakshina Kannada District Swachh Abhiyan and Chairpersons of Janashikshana Trust, explained how such practices not only mar the scenic beauty of the area but also endanger public as well as animal health by polluting the environment.

One of the highlights of the event was the active participation of the students from the Biotechnology and Mechanical Engineering departments in the clean-up drive on the roadside aimed at ridding the existing streetside waste.

The event also witnessed the active participation of Dr. Prashant Pai, HOD of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Ronald Valder, Department of Biotechnology Engineering, Professor Ismail S., Department of Physics, Professor Sakeena, Department of Computer Science Engineering, and Assistant Professor Shabeeba V, Department of Biotechnology Engineering.

The program marks the beginning of a collective effort to combat streetside waste dumping. It is expected that this initiative will lead to a significant reduction in waste dumping incidents and contribute to a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful community.
