One-Day Workshop on Recent Trends in Satellite Data Analysis
May 25, 2024 - May 25, 2024
IEEE Bangalore Chapter and IEEE GRSS Student Branch Chapter of P. A. College of Engineering, in association with the Department of Civil Engineering, organized a one-day workshop on recent trends in satellite data analysis.
Eminent personalities Mr. R. Hebbar., Scientist "G", and General Manager, Regional Remote Sensing Centre-South NRSC, ISRO Bangalore; Dr. Saroj Meher., Associate Professor, Indian Statistical Institute Bangalore, and Dr. Shyam Lal, Associate Professor, NITK, Surathkal, were the resource persons.
Mr. R. Hebbar delivered a talk on the topic: Geospatial Technology for Natural Resource Assessment, emphasizing the importance of remote sensing and geoscience in addressing global challenges such as climate change, natural resource management, urban planning, and smart cities. He highlighted recent advancements and future trends in the field, motivating students to actively participate in research and development activities.
Dr. Saroj K. Meher delivered a talk on the topic of machine learning and remote sensing data analysis, highlighting soft skills, hard skills, data, information, feature extraction, model training, change detection, and validation. He also emphasised that, by leveraging machine learning techniques, remote sensing data can be effectively analysed to provide valuable insights for decision-making in various applications.
Dr. Shyam Lal spoke on the topic: Open-source remote sensing data sets and advanced deep learning algorithms. He highlighted the land cover classification: Identifying different types of land cover (e.g., forests, urban areas, water bodies) using classification algorithms like Random Forest, Support Vector Machines (SVM), and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). Change Detection: Monitoring changes over time in land use, vegetation cover, or urban development using time series analysis and anomaly detection methods. He also demonstrated many case studies of the projects carried out by his students at NITK, Surathkal.
The staff and students of Civil, AIML, CSE, E&C of PACE Mangalore, YIT Moodabidre and Canara College of Engineering, Benjamapadavu were participated.
All the sessions were interactive and all the participants were actively participated in the workshop.
