Inauguration of IEEE EMBS Workshop: "Transforming Biomedicine: The Power of AI and Machine Learning"

A value-added course, the IEEE EMBS Workshop on "Transforming Biomedicine: The Power of AI and Machine Learning - A Workshop on the Future of Healthcare," was inaugurated on July 18, 2024, at the UNIX Lab, PACE, Mangalore. The event was graced by Dr. U. C. Niranjana, Director of MDN Labs and Adjunct Faculty at MIT, Manipal, as the chief guest.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests, including Dr. Krishnaraj Chadaga, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at MIT, Manipal; Dr. Ramis M. K., Principal of PACE; Dr. Sharmila Kumari, Vice Principal of PACE; Dr. Krishna Prasad N., Head of the Department of Biotechnology; Dr. Mohammed Zakir, Co-coordinator of Workshop, Associate Professor, Department of EC; and Dr. Shareefraju J. Ukkund, Coordinator of the Workshop and faculty member in the Department of Biotechnology, PACE, Mangalore.
The event commenced with an invocation by Mr. Shafeeq, a 6th-semester Computer Science student, followed by an inspiring address from the chief guest. Dr. Niranjana emphasized the growing importance of AI and ML in the healthcare and biomedical sectors. He also released the workshops newsletter during the inaugural function.
In his presidential address, Dr. Ramis M. K. discussed current trends in research and development, highlighting the significance of multidisciplinary innovations. He also mentioned upcoming events aimed at fostering collaboration between the engineering and medical communities to address existing challenges in healthcare, benefiting the students.
Dr. Krishna Prasad N. delivered an insightful speech on the impact of AI and ML in the current era, while Dr. Sharmila Kumari urged the students to take this value-added course seriously. Dr. Shareefraju J. Ukkund motivated the students to acquire various skills and tools over the next three days and wished them good luck.
The event was smoothly compeered by Ms. Tabsheera Maryam, a 6th-semester Biotechnology student, and Ms. Ayisha Afra, a 4th-semester Biotechnology student. The workshop promises to be a valuable learning experience, equipping students with the knowledge and skills essential for the future of healthcare.
The three-day workshop will feature expert sessions, hands-on training, and project work, ensuring that participants gain practical experience in AI and ML applications in biomedicine. With this initiative, PACE, Mangalore, is poised to make a significant impact on the future of healthcare by empowering students with the latest technologies and innovations.
