Spreading Awareness, Sparking Change: Swachhata Pakhwada Event Empowers Community

On September 12, 2024, the Social Connect and Responsibility Cell and Environment Cell of PA College of Engineering, in collaboration with PACENEXT, the Alumni Association of PACE, organized the Swachhata Pakhwada event at Kotekar and Belma Panchayats. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Ramis M K, who flagged off the activities.
The event saw active participation from third-semester Computer Science students and faculty members, including Dr. Sharmila Kamari, Vice Principal and HOD CSE, Prof. C.V. Pujar, Environment Cell Coordinator, Prof. Laila Jaseela A, SCR Coordinator, Prof. Habeebu Rahman, Treasurer PACENEXT, as well as Prof. Divya, Prof. Avvani, Prof. Ramzeela, Ms. Vaishnavi, Ms. Salwa, and Mr. Haseed, Mr. Abdul Hameed.
Students were divided into groups and assigned various areas to cover, including grocery stores, fish and meat stalls, and garment outlets in Kottekar and Belma villages. The teams engaged in discussions and awareness campaigns with local vendors and shopkeepers, emphasizing the negative impacts of single-use plastics and promoting proper disposal methods.
Local officials, Mr. Vikram, Health Inspector, Mr. Pusthi Mohammed from Kottekar Pattana Panchayath, and Ramesh Naik, PDO, along with the President, Vice President, and members of Belma Panchayat, addressed the students, providing support and guidance.
The event successfully heightened local awareness about the environmental harm of single-use plastics and the significance of waste management, fostering a greater sense of environmental responsibility in the community.
