IEEE SIGHT and IEEE Signal Processing Society Inaugurated at PACE

The inaugural function of the IEEE SIGHT and IEEE Signal Processing Society was held on 28th October 2024 at Multipurpose Hall. The event aimed to explore how technology can contribute to a better future, fostering collaboration and innovation among participants.
The program commenced with a warm welcome by expressing pleasure to everyone gathered. Special acknowledgments were made to the chief guest, Dr. Chengappa Munjandira, Chair of IEEE SIGHT Bangalore Section and Senior Technologist at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, for his inspiring dedication to advancing technology for societal betterment. The Principal, Dr. Ramis M. K., for his unwavering support of student initiatives, along with Vice Principal Dr. Sharmila Kumari and Dr. Asif Hasan, Head of the Electronics and Communication Department. We express our gratitude to Dr. Mohammad Zakir, IEEE Branch Counsellor, and Dr. Asia Hazareena, IEEE SPS Faculty Advisor, for their invaluable insights and support in organizing the event.
Dr. Munjandiras keynote address centred on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were established in 2015 to address critical global challenges by 2030. He highlighted specific goals, including the eradication of hunger, promotion of quality education, achievement of gender equality, and urgent action against climate change, underscoring the necessity for collaborative efforts among governments, industries, and individuals to realize these objectives. He also discussed the Millennium Development Goals and their impact on shaping the current SDGs, providing a historical context for the ongoing efforts toward sustainable development. In addition, he provided an analysis of the three pillars of sustainability—economic, social, and environmental—and explained blockchain concepts such as Proof of Work and Proof of Stake, highlighting their implications for future technologies. Furthermore, he discussed the importance of green finance in promoting environmental responsibility and introduced the audience to Web3, the next generation of the internet, along with Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) and their decentralized principles.
In conclusion, the inaugural function of the IEEE SIGHT and IEEE Signal Processing Society successfully highlighted the critical role of technology in achieving sustainable development. Dr. Chengappa Munjandira’s insightful address on the UN Sustainable Development Goals inspired attendees to collaborate and innovate for a better future.
