Securing the Future: Cyber Security in IoT – Insights from Industry Experts

The Alumni Conclave on Cyber Security in IoT was successfully organized on 18/02/2025 by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (IoT and Cyber Security including Blockchain Technology). The event aimed to provide valuable insights into securing Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystems, an increasingly important topic in the field of cyber security.
The session was led by Mohammed Irfan M A, a Senior Consultant in DevSecOps at BlackDuck, who shared his expertise on the challenges and solutions in securing IoT networks.

Key topics covered included:
Overview of IoT security: Discussed the unique challenges posed by interconnected devices and the expanding attack surface.
Security best practices: Covered strategies like embedding security early in the development cycle, integrating tools like SAST, SCA, DAST into CI/CD pipelines, and conducting regular threat modeling.
Emerging technologies: Explored AI-driven threat detection, Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA), and automated vulnerability scanning to enhance IoT security.
Interactive Q&A session: Participants engaged in a lively discussion, gaining insights from real-world experiences shared by the speaker.

The event was supported by Dr. Shamna N. V., HoD, who encouraged students to develop expertise in this field. The event was successfully coordinated by Prof. Afeefa Nazneen N. Z., with support from Ms. Meghashree and Prof. Thofa Aysha and other dedicated organizers who ensured the smooth flow of the session.
The session was concluded with a small talk by Mr. Habeeb Ur Rehman P.B, offering closing remarks and further encouraging students to dive deeper into cyber security.
