Bridging the Gap: A Roadmap to DevOps and Career Success

As part of the PACENEXT Alumni Conclave, a series of technical talks by alumni from various departments held from 17th to 21st February, the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC) at PA College of Engineering (PACE) organized an invited talk on "Getting Started with DevOps and Tools Used in Implementation" on 18th February 2025. The session, conducted under the banner of the PACENEXT Alumni Association, was held in Lecture Hall 24 and featured Mr. Mohammad Harron Al Rasheed, an alumnus of the EC 2019 batch and currently Team Lead – DevOps at Disconnect Inc. The audience primarily comprised 2nd-year EC students eager to gain insights into DevOps and career opportunities.

The event was graced by the presence of dignitaries, including Dr. Ramis M K (Principal, PACE), Dr. Asif Hassan (HOD-EC), Prof. Mohammed Hussain K, and Prof. Mohammed Saleem. The session began with a welcome address by Prof. Mohammed Hussain K, who introduced the speaker and highlighted his achievements in the industry.

Mr. Mohammad Harron Al Rasheed started his talk by explaining the fundamentals of DevOps, its growing significance in the tech industry, and how students can get started in this field. He provided insights into various DevOps tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD (for CI/CD pipelines), Docker and Kubernetes (for containerization and orchestration), as well as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud (for cloud computing). He also introduced monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK Stack, explaining how these technologies are crucial in automating and streamlining software development and deployment processes.

Beyond technical knowledge, Mr. Harron also provided valuable guidance on placements, discussing the various stages of the placement process, including aptitude tests, technical interviews, and HR interviews. He emphasized the importance of problem-solving skills, coding proficiency, hands-on project experience, and relevant certifications in securing placements in top companies. Additionally, he encouraged students to focus on internships and networking to enhance their career prospects.

The session was interactive, with students actively engaging in discussions, asking questions about career paths in DevOps, industry trends, and preparation strategies for job placements.

Following the technical talk, Dr. Ramis M K, Principal of PACE, addressed the audience, highlighting the scope for Electronics and Communication (EC) engineers in the next 3 to 6 years. He spoke about the booming semiconductor manufacturing industry and the numerous opportunities available for EC graduates in this domain. His words provided encouragement to students, emphasizing the need to upskill and adapt to emerging technologies.

To mark the occasion, a memento was presented to Mr. Mohammad Harron Al Rasheed by Dr. Ramis M K and Dr. Asif Hassan as a token of appreciation for his valuable insights. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Mohammed Saleem, who expressed gratitude to the speaker, dignitaries, faculty members, and students for making the session a success.

The talk was highly informative and inspiring, equipping students with practical knowledge on DevOps, career guidance, and placement strategies. It served as a valuable learning experience, encouraging students to explore new career opportunities and prepare themselves for the evolving job market.
