Building Dreams: Transitioning from Industry to Entrepreneurship in Civil Engineering

As part of the PACENEXT Alumni Conclave, a series of technical and career-oriented talks organized from 17th to 21st February 2025, the Department of Civil Engineering at P.A. College of Engineering (PACE) hosted an insightful session titled “From Industry to Entrepreneurship: Navigating the Shift from Corporate to Start-ups” on 19th February 2025.
The invited talk featured Mr. Abdullahi Bishir NM, an esteemed alumnus and the Founder of BSR Hisight Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. The session, held in the MBA GD Room at 2:00 PM, aimed to provide students with valuable insights into transitioning from a corporate career to entrepreneurship, sharing real-world experiences, challenges, and opportunities in the startup ecosystem.
The session begun with the prayer by Mr. Abdulla from 4th semester Civil and further welcome addressing by Suhan from 4th sem Civil, who introduced about the resource person of the day.
Dr. Palakshappa HOD, Civil delivered presidential address where he highlighted the importance of Alumni interactions which will connect the students with their alma mater. These connections can also lead to mentorship opportunities, networking, and potential job prospects.
During his talk, Mr. Abdullahi Bishir NM discussed key aspects of entrepreneurship, including:
• The mind-set shift required to transition from a structured corporate job to the dynamic start up environment.
• Challenges faced by new entrepreneurs and strategies to overcome them.
• The importance of innovation, risk-taking, and perseverance in building a successful venture.
• Insights into the infrastructure industry and emerging opportunities for civil engineers.
The session was highly engaging, with students actively participating in discussions, asking questions about entrepreneurship, funding, and the skills required to build a successful startup. Mr. Abdullahi Bishir emphasized the importance of networking, continuous learning, and leveraging industry experience when venturing into business.
To honor his contribution, a memento was presented to Mr. Abdullahi Bishir NM by Principal Dr. Ramis M K as a token of appreciation. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Glen of 4th semester Civil Engineering department, acknowledging the efforts of the PACENEXT Alumni Association, faculty members, and students in making the session a success.

The session provided a valuable roadmap for aspiring entrepreneurs, encouraging students to explore career paths beyond traditional corporate roles and consider innovative opportunities in the start-up ecosystem.
