Dr. Shareefraju J. Ukkund, Dept. of Biotechnology, P. A. College of Engineering, Mangalore, was selected as a Member of Parliament in the Citizen Youth Parliament (CYP), an initiative by Y20 and G20, India, aiming to gather innovative ideas from youth for parliamentary sessions. 185 members, including Dr. Ukkund, were selected out of 2500 participants after a rigorous process. The program was graced by various Ministers and MLAs both in Inaugural and Valedictory including Mr. H. K. Patil, the Law Minister of Karnataka and Mr. Basavaraj Horatti, the chairman of the State Legislative Assembly. The event took place in Vikas Soudha, Bangalore from August 4th to 6th, 2023. Participants discussed bills and national issues, supervised by experts from KILPAR, Govt. of Karnataka. The CEO of Citizen Group India organized the event, which concluded with notable guests and an inspiring message on leadership. 

Mr. Dwaraknath Babu, Director, KILPAR, in his concluding remarks, praised the questions raised by Dr. Shareefraju during the sessions including Farm bill, UCC bill and critical issues like Price hikes, mishandling of law & order, continuous dropping global ranking of India in Hunger, Health & Women safety.
