Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering is the comprehensive discipline in engineering which involves design, manufacture, maintain, and recycle of everything right from a small individual part to a complex spacecraft. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at PACE was established in the year 2004 with an intake of 60 students to impart technical skills of highest and contemporary quality to the blooming engineers. After the continuous improvement and added facility the department now accommodates 180 students in an academic year. The Department has now 31 teaching staff and 12 supporting faculty.

The department offers both under graduate and post graduate programs (M.Tech in Thermal Engineering) with the following salient features:

A very warm welcome to the website of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, P.A. College of Engineering. The discipline of Mechanical Engineering has a long and distinguished history of developing state-of-the-art technologies and exhilarating solutions for the mankind.

Since the inception in the year 2004, with an intake of 60 at undergraduate level, the Department has grown consistently with added facilities to accommodate 180 students in an academic year. At the postgraduate level, we offer M. Tech. (Thermal Sciences) and the department recognized as a Research Centre by VTU to offer PhD Degree. Our department has a distinguished record in both teaching and research. Faculty members have excellent academic credentials and are highly regarded. The students of the department are also active in scholastic and co-scholastic domains and has won several overall championships in the region. Our department maintains active research groups for carrying out collaborative and interdisciplinary research and have publications in refereed journals. We have state of the art research facilities to support our academic programs and research. Funding for research help us to maintain and modernize our research infrastructure.

P.A. College of Engineering is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum and recognised by Government of Karnataka.

P.A. College of Engineering offers Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in the following courses.

Note: Lateral Entry Eligibility

Candidates shall have passed a three year Diploma in Engineering with minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC/ST) in the final year.

Seat Allotment

The allotment and distribution of the seats are as follows

  • Common Entrance Test (CET) by Government of Karnataka - 40% Seats
  • Management Quota – 60% Seats

CET admissions procedure

CET is conducted every year by the government of Karnataka through the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). Only Karnataka students can appear for this entrance exam.

The seat allocation depends on the rank and choice of the student. The fee structure is decided by the Govt. of Karnataka every year.

Management quota admissions procedure

Candidates interested to join under management/ NRI quota has to collect the Brochure and application forms from the Admissions Office and submit the duly filled in forms along with the documents required and photographs. After the document verification, they have to attend the counselling session. Admission slip/ Payment receipts need to be retained for future reference.

Eligibility

The candidate shall have passed the Second year Pre-University of XII std or equivalent examinations with physics and mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with one of the following subjects: Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Electronics and shall have secured not less than 45% of the aggregate marks in optional subjects with English as one of the languages of the study. 40% marks in case of Karnataka candidates who belong to SC, ST and OBC.

Educational Loan Assistance

We support the students with all the necessary documents required to avail educational loan facility from the banks of their choice.

Scholarship

Scholarship is available for meritorious students. Scholarship amount depends on the marks scored in core subjects in PUC/Plus Two exams. Please contact Admissions Officer for more details.

Workshops

Mechanical Engineering Association(MEA),PACE organised an invited talk on "FUEL CELLS" for 3rd year mechanical students on 21st March 2016 at 3:25pm in Multipurpose Hall.Mr. Yathin Krishna, Project associate of Prof. Yoshinobu Yoshishara Ritsumeikan university, Japan, delivered the talk.. The talk Highlighted how "FUEL CELLS" can be utilised for increasing efficiency, reducing pollution & as an alternative for IC Engine in the near future.

On February 23rd, Mr. Mithun from the Petrocon Institute of Piping Engineering, Mangalore was invited to P.A. College of Engineering, Mangalore to deliver a lecture on “Opportunities in Piping Industries” which was organized by the Mechanical Engineering Association (MEA) in the Multi-Purpose Hall. The audience were final year Mechanical Engineering Students.The program started with an initial address of Dr Ramis M K, who emphasized on the need of acquiring a skill in any of the industry oriented domains during their course, which will help the students to place themselves by the time they are out. During the seminar, Mr. Mithun threw a limelight on various aspects of piping courses offered by the Petrocon Institute of Piping Engineering and the opportunities that are available in piping industries after completion of the course. Side by side he gave a brief introduction on how the softwares and training manuals are exercised during the period of training. Some of them included applying parameters as per rules and regulations given by certain institutions like ASME & ASTM, development of piping layout, development of GA Drawings, Piping isometrics etc. The lecture turned out to be very beneficial to the students present over there, many of whom decided to malign their interests in this section of engineering.

Mechanical Engineering Association organized an Invited Talk on "ELECTRIC CURRENT INDUCED LONG RANGE FLOW OF LIQUID METALS-TAKING SERENDIPITY TO TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT FLOW" on 6th -February 2016. Speaker of the day was "DR PRAVEEN KUMAR"(Asst. Professor at Dept of Materials Engineering; IISc Bangalore). The program was hosted by Mr. Ahad of VI Sem. Dr Sharief (Principal), Dr. Ramis M.K (Vice Principal), Dr. Zahid Ansari (Dean-Research) were the other dignitaries present. The talk highlighted the importance of serendipity in technological development and discoveries.The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Muhammad ibn Abdul Nasar of VI Sem.

On February 3rd, a renowned personality and former Principal Dr. S.A. Khan visited P.A. College of Engineering, Mangalore to deliver an Invited Talk on “Recent Advancements In Defence and Space Resources”. Dr. S.A. Khan who is currently a Professor at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Kuala Lampur has also worked in Defence Research And Development Organisation (DRDO). During his seminar, he threw a limelight on concept of micro-jets to control the base pressure and jet noise, missile modifications for enhanced performance, unguided rockets etc. Dr. Khan also gave a brief overview of his contribution to the DRDO such as the alterations he made in the missile and rocket to adapt longer trajectories. At the end, he talked about his ongoing research at IIUM, and developments being made with the rise in modern era of science and technology. The programme was then followed by Principal Dr. Abdul Sharief‘s speech. He thanked Dr. Khan for giving his valuable time out of his busy schedule and parting with his great knowledge. The Director of Academics Prof. SurfrazHashim, Dean Research Dr. Zahid Ansari also gave their concluding remarks. The Vice Principal & HOD of Mechanical Department Dr. Ramis M.K. finally thanked the esteemed guest for sparing his time and knowledge for the sake of students present over there.

A series of workshops entitled “Catalyst: preparing for the capstone project” were conducted by Dr. Zahid Ansari, Dean (Research), P.A. College of Engineering from 14th to 20th October 2015, to motivate the final year students of CSE/ISE, E&C,EEE, Bio-Tech, Civil and Mechanical engineering departments, to do the quality project and unleash their skills. The series of program culminated on 20th October 2015 with the last workshop at Mechanical department with wise words for the students to improve the quality and bring innovation by the HOD Mechanical and Vice-Principal Dr. Ramis M.K.. The Valedictory of the program witnessed the words of Principal Dr. Abdul Sharief for the funding aspects and IT tools, in presence of Vice-principal Dr. Ramis M.K, Director (Academics) Prof SurfrazHashim J, Dean (Research), Dr. Zahid Ansari and Prof. Ahmed Rimaz R. Faizabadi.

A three day workshop on Industrial Automation was held on 2nd,3rd and 4th of October 2015 for the pre-final and the final year. The training was conducted by Mr. Himanshu Kumar, INDWELL Institute of technology.

Mechanical Engineering Association [MEA] of PACE organized Techxpo 2015, an Automobile Engineering Show (Technically Oriented Exhibition, Seminar and Workshop) on May 8th and 9th, 2015. The main intention of the event was to exhibit the advances in the automobile industry and provide a platform for technically inclined students /others to interact, sharpen and share their ideas. The seminars, workshops, stalls and exhibits during the program focused on this theme. The audience were students from 25 engineering colleges, around Mangalore, mechanics, technicians and automobile consultants in this region. Also the venue provided an opening for people interested in the latest technologies in automotive industry, to study and explore the market. The total number of participants were in the range of 1000+, which included students from other engineering colleges, invitees from garages in and around Mangalore. Indoor Exhibits on Latest Technologies in Automotive Industry, Outdoor Exhibits and Stalls on Modified and Vintage Cars, High Performance Lubricants and Turbine Technology was the major attraction of the event. The. Free Auto Diagnostic Scanning for New Generation Cars (Cars with OBD 2) was a major event open for the public.. Mr. Sushil Chandra Mannagudda (GM, MRPL) inaugurated the function and the Technovation Award and Techxhibit Award was distributed for the best project and best car, respectively by Mr. U.T Khader, Honble Minister for Health, Govt. of Karnataka, during the valedictory function. The bike stunt show cased by Zero Gravity was the major attraction witnessed by thousands of audience during the valedictory function.

LAUNCH, the leaders in automotive diagnostics, and Mobil 1, the world’s largest synthetic oil and Candour Auto Tech (CAT), a team of passionate automobile engineers who are specialised in vehicle diagnostics were the official partners of the event. Mr. Schichun Tao (Sales Director, Asia Pacific, Middle East, North Africa and Latin America, Launch Tech Pvt. Limited),Mr. Joy Yan (Sales Manager, Launch Tech Pvt. Limited, India), Mr. Sasi Menon (Retail Head, Mobil 1) and Mr. Shamnas Mohammed (Technical Expert and Managing Director, Candour Auto Tech Pvt. Workshops

A three day workshop/training on STAR CCM software was conducted by CD Adapco, giants in the field of CFD software during 6th,7th and 8th of January 2015 for pre final year and final year students.

A seminar on diagnostic techniques in automotive industry was conducted by Mr. Shamnas, consultant to automotive industries on 5 November 2014. The session was for the 3rd and the 4th year students.

Two weeks certified training program was conducted by Manjunatha design and solutions on “CATIA-Version 5.0 – Basics, Designing, Modeling and Analysis” during January 1-15, 2014 for pre-final year and final year students.

Department of Mechanical Engineering signed an MOU with Kamati Green Tech LLP Bangalore, a company on Solar and other Renewable Energy Utilization, on 21.10.2015. Mr K. Nazeem CEO Kamati Green Tech LLP and Dr Ramis M.K, Principal Investigator through the MoU agreed upon mutual sharing of man power and technology for harnessing the renewable energy sources.

HMT lab

HMT lab includes estimation of heat conduction in composite wall. Natural convection, forced convenction. Parallel and counter flow heat exchanger, thermal conductivity of metal rod, Emmisivity apparatus. Vapors compression refrigeration system. Stefan Boltzmann apparatus and pin-fin apparatus. Thermal conductivity of metal rod.

Workshop

The workshop imparts training in basic skills like fitting, sheet metal, welding and carpentry.

The department is equipped with a departmental library dedicated only to Mechanical Engineering domain accommodating academic books for reference and technical magazines focusing on the current advances in the mechanical engineering domain.

Fluid Mechanics Lab

It has variety of experiments like flow measuring devices venturimeter, weirs, Notches orifice meters and equipments for flow study for estimating losses in pipes. Study of impact of jets over vanes. Water turbine like Pelton wheel and Kaplan turbine, centrifugal pumps. Multistage Compressors and other equipments.

CIM and Automation Lab/Material Testing Lab

Computer Integrated Manufacturing and Automation Lab is the integration of computers with manufacturing through the use of integrated system and data communication coupled with new managerial philosophies that improve organizational and personal efficiency. CIM improves operational control, short sum responsiveness, reduce inventory and increases machine Utilization.In CIM Lab CNC part programming is written for turning, drilling and milling operations and simulation of the same is carried out using SEENC TURN, SEENC MILL, CAPSTURN and CAPSMILL software.

The lab is equipped with air conditioning and is highly furnished to accommodate the students in a conducive environment.

Foundry and forging lab

Foundry and Forging are the most primitive techniques to bring material to required shape and size. Casting is a technique where material is treated above its melting points to bring it to molten state and poured in to mould of the required shape. Forging is a process of heating the material to a temperature above re-crystallization but below its melting temperature. With the application of pressure material formed to required shape.

C.A.M.A. Lab

"Computer Aided Modeling and Analysis lab" is equipped with more than 30 computers installed. The Ansys APDL 15.0 software is accessed by the prefinal students for the modelling and analysis of structural and heat transfer problems, The lab is equipped with air conditioning and is highly furnished to accommodate the students in a conducive environment.

Machine Shop

The machine shop comprises All Gear Lathes, Milling Machines, Shaping Machines and other equipments like power hacksaw and accessories like surface gauge height gauge flat tables etc.

Energy conversion lab

Energy conversion lab consists of following facilities. Flash and Fire point apparatus, saybolt and Redwood viscometers, Boy’s calorimeter, Four strike diesel and petrol engine test rigs, Multi cylinder four stroke petrol engine apparatus.

Design Lab

Strength, life, durability are the prominent words in the design field. Prominent knowledge of design of machine components will be provided through experiments like vibration monitoring equipments. Continuous shaft system, governors, photo-elasticity experimental set up etc.,

Mechanical Measurements and Metrology lab

Metrology is the science of measurements. The measurement lab is equipped with measuring instrument such as pressure gauge, LVDT, thermocouple, load cell, profile projector, bevel protractor, autocollimeter, slip gauges and angle gauges etc.,

CAED/CAMD Lab

CAED lab houses computers with Solid Edge softwares which cater the needs of first year students for Computer Aided Engineering Drawing. The 3D workbench module is used by the second year Mechanical Students for Computer Aided Machine Drawing.

Research Labs

Nanotechnology Research Lab:

Nanotechnology Lab wasestablished, withadvanced equipmentfor preparation and measurement of properties of nanofluids, facilitating research scholars of the college on conducting various nanoscale heat transfer studies . This lab was established by Dr. Ramis M.K, under the fund of Seed Money Scheme for Research Assistance provided by PACE, in the year 2010.

Computational Fluid Dynamics Lab:

CFD lab was established with licensed version of sophisticated analysis softwares like ANSYS FLUENT and high end computers with air conditioned state of art facilities. This lab was established by Dr. Ramis M.K under the fund of Research Promotion Scheme of AICTE, in the year 2014.

Micro and Minichannel Lab:

The Micro and Minichannel Laboratory is being set up to promote research in the area of Micro and Minichannel Heat Transfer which will be equipped with precise instruments for measuring various flow parameters.This lab is being established by Dr. Ramis M.K under the fund of SMYSR scheme of VTU.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES IN 2016-17

​​Water Conservation Week ​

Department of Mechanical Engineering under the aegis of PACE took an initiative to create an awareness on Water conservation through "Water Conservation Week" from 12-05- 2017 to 19-05- 2017.

Many events were organized under the hood of this initiative. Viz., Poster Making, , Implanting Stickers of Water & Power Conservation in the utility areas of our campus, Watering the Tree Saplings around the campus, Distribution of T Shirts on theme 'Save Water' to Gardeners, Electricians and canteen employees.

On the concluding day i.e. 19-05- 2017 the winners of different competitions and the student volunteers of the event were given certificates to appreciate their efforts.

​​CSC and Robotics club inauguration ​

The inauguration of CSC (computation and simulation club) and robotics club were held on 22nd of May 2017. The Computation and Simulation Club is established with a vision to create a platform for students to introduce them to widely used techniques in the numerical solution of Fluid equations, structural analysis, biomedical, aerospace applications and to learn modern trends in CFD, FEM, FEA. Emphasis will be on ‘ learning by doing’, as students will work on programming futuristic projects. Furthermore, Robotics club is a community of students who derive pleasure in creating interdisciplinary peers that may even be potent to work without human intervention. Each of this family is provided mechanical, production, electronic and informatory aid besides the indispensible guidance of experienced members.

Executive Director Mr. Abdulla Ibrahim, Principal Dr. Abdul Sharief, Dean Research Dr. Zahid Ansari, mentors of the club Assistant Professors Rudresh N and Yathin Krishna were present during the function. The clubs got inaugurated in the presence of three guest faculties from NITK Suratkal, Dr. Ranjith M, Dr. Ramesh M R and Dr. Sharanappa Joladarashi.

Mr. Abdulla Ibrahim, the Executive Director in his inaugural address motivated and enlightened the students about the benefits of Computational Fluid Dynamics in the field of research. Dr.Abdul Sharief in his presidential talk encouraged the students from different branches to develop programming skills through various activities of the clubs. Dr. Zahid Ansari in his talk enlightened students about the importance of programming in interdisciplinary research. Dr. Ramis M K in his concluding remarks, created awareness amongst the students about upcoming club activities and how these activities will help students in grooming their talents.

The Program was followed by a talk on CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) by Dr. Ranjith, Assistant Professor, Department of ME, NITK Suratkal, he talked in depth regarding applications of CFD in Fluid flow analysis, Heat and mass transfer, Biomedical and Microbiology. Mr. Shazib Ahmed (6th sem, Lead CSC), Mr. Ranjan Shettigar (4th sem Lead CSC), Mr.Abdulla Khan (Lead, Robotics Club), Mr. Nisar Ahmed, Mr. Shamoon, Mr.Fazalu Rahiman, Mr.Abdul Razak, Mr. Anfal Hussain Coordinated the Program in various roles.

“Project presentation- KAUSHAL” under the banner of ISTE – PACE Chapter was conducted on 22nd May 2017. 36 batches from the Department exhibited their innovative and creative works to the panel members. Eminent jury members Dr. Sharnappa, Dr. Ranjith and Dr. M.R Ramesh from NATIONAL Institute of technology, Suratkal evaluated the various projects. Jury members appreciated the work carried out by various students and encouraged some batches to carry out the project work in Industrial sector. Fifteen students were selected for a ​​One Day Training and Hands on Workshop on Latest Automotive Diagnostics jointly conducted by CAT (Candour Auto Tech Pvt. Ltd.)and LAUNCH at CAT Labs Trivandrum on 18 May 2017.

The workshop was opened with the topic vehicle electrical and electronics, by CAT CEO, Mr.Shamnas. He then differentiated decentralized and centralized electrical systems adopted in vehicles.He also explained what are sensors and actuators and in what way it is used in vehicles.After the tea break Mr. Shamnas presented the major system of an automobile which is the Control Module. He taught the most basic and foundation things of a control module, and students were given a hands on experience on control modules.The morning session also included communication protocols, CAN (controller area network) bus and the diagnostic devices used to diagnose vehicles.Students were excited for the afternoon session, because of the live diagnosis of the vehicles, which also gave the students to do a hand-on on the devices and perform diagnosis on their own which was a new level of experience. During diagnosis he explained the significance of each and every options that showed up on the screen. In the last session of the day was Q&A, students came up with different queries at the end of the day and they were able to clear them in the best possible manner.​ ​Every one gathered in front of CAT to click some photos and parted by exchanging handshakes and greeting with Mr.Shamnas and his team.

​​AUTO HOOD - 2-day workshop on automobiles

AUTO HOOD (A 2-day workshop on automobiles) was conducted by “VROOMIX” ​- ​Auto-club​ ​​ of Department of MECHANICAL ENGINEERING, on 6-7 May 2017 at the multi-purpose hall.The trainer was Mr. Rakesh Sharma, Design Engineer at Ministry of Defence, New Delhi and also a trainer of Geeks Lab Technologies, New Delhi who conducts automobile workshops across India.​ ​The workshop was attended by forty four (44) students from across all branches.He was presented a handout by Prof.Faraz, mentor of VROOMIX auto club. The workshop concluded second day evening with a group photo in front of admin block​.​

VROOMIX - the auto club at P.A College Of Engineering was inaugurated by Mr. Abdulla Ibrahim, (Executive Director, PAET) on 05.05.2017. Mr. K.M.Haneef (Director Admin), Dr. Abdul Sharief (Principal, PACE), Dr. Ramis M.K (Vice Principal, PACE), Prof. Faraz. P. Junaid (Mentor, VROOMIX) were present during the function. Mr. Althaf (6th SEM, Lead VROOMIX), Mr. Zamrood (4th SEM, Member VROOMIX)

Mr. Nisar Ahmed (6th SEM, Member VROOMIX) coordinated the program in various roles.

Prof. Faraz P.Junaid in his introductory speech, encouraged the students to make a car of their own and Mr. Abdulla Ibrahim in his inaugural address enlightened the students about the various domains they can reach through the Auto Club. Dr.Abdul Sharief in his presidential talk motivated the students to develop skills through various activities. Dr.Ramis M.K in his concluding remarks, spoke about the various achievements of students and how the various platform present in the college will help students in their talent grooming.

The program was followed by INQUIZITIVE, an aero and auto quiz conducted by Mr.Ahad (8th SEM Mech). Mr. Rashad and Mr. Abishek from EC dept. were the winners of inquisitive. The winners will be awarded prizes by chairman on College Day.​

Invited talk on Aero Modelling followed by Air Show

ALOFT the Aeroclub@PACE organized a talk on Aermodelling , on 4 May 2017 in Multipurpose Hall. Mr Anwar an Electronics Engg graduate, who has participated in several competitions, including NASA was the resource person of the program. He inspired the students with his experiences. Mr Ahmed Shamoon, IV SEM, Mr Adnan Soud V1 SEM, Mr Adnan Hashim VI SEM, Mr Ahmed Riza Vi SEM and Mr Masood Sulaiman VIII SEM, Mechanical Engg Students coordinated the program in various roles. Mr Vishal from Kinetic Hobbies also enlightened the students with his expertise on Aeromodelling. The program concluded with remarks from Dr Ramis M K who emphasised on keeping the activities of club alive. The program was followed by Air Show where a quadropter and small fixed wing model was flown at the bus parking area and a big fixed wing model at the college football ground. Hundreds of students witnessed the program.

Invited talk on “Oil and Gas industry, Overview and Opportunities

Mechanical Engineering Association (MEA) organized a talk on ‘Oil and gas industry, an overview and opportunities’ on 4th of April 2017 in the Multipurpose hall. The resource person was Mr Akbar Arakkal from Qatar Petroleum. Final year students from Mechanical, Civil, Electronics and Electrical branch students attended the talk.

The program began with the address of Dr Ramis M. K , Head of Department of Mechanical Engineeringwhere he emphasized that the problem is not with employment but with employability. Thereafter Mr Arakkal enlightened the students with an introduction of the oil industry, the various processes and fields related and the roles the various Engineering branches had to play in the oil and gas industry.

Mr Mujeeb, Director of Uttaradesham Daily Kasaragod, Dr Abdul Sharief, Principal (PACE)Mr Haneef KM, Director (PACE)and Prof Surfraz Hasim (Director Academics) were present during the valedictory function.

“SPARK: Career and Challenges in Mechanical Industry:(IT focus)”

A workshop entitled “SPARK: Career and Challenges in Mechanical Industry: PHASE-1 (IT focus)” for Mechanical Engineers was conducted by Dr. Zahid Ansari, Dean (Research), P.A. College of Engineering on 22/03/2017, to motivate the pre final year students of Mechanical Engineering department, to hone their programming skills to excel in the mechanical industry. The major objectives of the program were to enable the students to identify the importance of learning programming and the required tools efficiently.

In this workshop, Prof. Ahmed Rimaz Faizabadi presented a systematic approach to plan their career in mechanical industry as freshmen by using programming. To summarize the Prof. Rimaz concluded If you're a scientist or engineer, programming can enable you to work 10 to 100 times faster and to come up with more creative solutions than your colleagues who don't know how to program and advised to learn just enough about programming, it helps in developing algorithmic thinking.

Vice-Principal and HOD Mechanical Dr. Ramis M K addressed the students to come forward and utilize the opportunities and infrastructural support offered by PACE to hone their professional profile with niche of programming skills. The program was conducted at 12:00 noon, in EDUSAT hall with full attendance of the 6 th Semester Mechanical students, and coordinated by Prof. Avinash, Prof. Shahbaz S M, Prof. Mohan K P in presence of Dr. Shankar K S and Prof. S K Jamil Ahmed.

AEROCLUB @ PACE 28th October 2016.

ALOFT AEROCLUB @ PACE is a platform for the students and faculty interested in aerospace and related fields to interact, share and experiment new ideas and translate them into practical outcomes. It aims at promoting initiatives among students on aeromodelling, CFD design of air vessels, experimental work on supersonic and subsonic flows etc. The full-fledged CFD laboratory in the campus and supporting experimental set ups in the vicinity will augment the activities under AEROCLUB @ PACE. Club is planning to conduct classes and practical workshops related to design and fabrication of smaller unmanned aircrafts. Club also intends to prepare students for various national and international competitions in the field of aerospace engineering.

M.E.A Inauguration of activities 2016-17

Mechanical Engineers Association (M.E.A) activities for the academic year 2016-2017 was inaugurated on 13 th August 2016, Thursday. Mr. Abdulla Ibrahim Executive Director was the Chief Guest of the function. The program was presided over by Principal Dr. Abdul Sharief. Professor & Head (Mechanical) Dr Ramis M K and HOD’S of other departments and faculty members were present during the function.

Invited talk on Opportunities in Mechanical Construction Industries

On May 10, Mr. Muralidharan and Mr. Biju Nair from the Induscan Petroleum Institute, Nilambur were invited to P.A. College of Engineering, Mangalore to deliver a lecture on “Opportunities in Mechanical Construction Industries” which was organized by the Mechanical Engineering Association (MEA) in the multi-purpose hall. Induscan has a team of efficient, qualified and hardcore professionals with broad spectrum of consultancy and industrial background. Their industrial training programmers are based on sound engineering principles & methodology, applicable code requirements and best industrial practices.

NAL Scientists visits PACE on 21st May 2016

21 st of May 2016 was a special day for the faculty of Mechanical Engineering department. Mr.Kanakamuthu, Scientist, National Aerospace Laboratories – Bangalore along with Mr.Nagaraj, Aparna Renewable Energies Private Limited – Bangalore visited P.A. College of Engineering to deliver a talk on Wind-solar hybrid energy systems. The talk was inaugurated by Dr. Ramis M K – HOD, in seminar hall of Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Invited Talk on Nanomaterials by Dr Ahsan-ul- Haq Qurashi from KING FAHD UNIVERSITY OF PETROLEUM AND MINERALS (KFUPM)

An Invited Talk on Nanomaterials by Dr Ahsan-ul- Haq Qurashi from KING FAHD UNIVERSITY OF PETROLEUM AND MINERALS (KFUPM) was delivered at P A College of Engineering Mangalore. The programme was organized by Mechanical Engineering Association (MEA) and attended by students of Mechanical Engineering, and Postgraduate and PhD students of Department of Chemistry from Mangalore University. Dr Ahsan is the Head of Centre of Excellence in Nanotechnology KFUPM. Dr Ahsan in his talk explained the potential of nanomaterials in harnessing the solar energy and the methods of preparation of nanomaterials. The programme was presided by Vice Principal Dr Ramis M K and the memento to the guest handed over by Principal Dr Abdul Sharief. MEA Vice President Mr Masood delivered the welcome note and Joint Secretary Abdul Fathah registered the vote of thanks.

Talk on "FUEL CELLS"

Mechanical Engineering Association(MEA),PACE organised an invited talk on "FUEL CELLS" for 3rd year mechanical students on 21st March 2016 at 3:25pm in Multipurpose Hall.Mr. Yathin Krishna, Project associate of Prof. Yoshinobu Yoshishara Ritsumeikan university, Japan, delivered the talk.. The talk Highlighted how "FUEL CELLS" can be utilised for increasing efficiency, reducing pollution & as an alternative for IC Engine in the near future.

Lecture on “Opportunities in Piping Industries”

On February 23rd, Mr. Mithun from the Petrocon Institute of Piping Engineering, Mangalore was invited to P.A. College of Engineering, Mangalore to deliver a lecture on “Opportunities in Piping Industries” which was organized by the Mechanical Engineering Association (MEA) in the Multi-Purpose Hall. The audience were final year Mechanical Engineering Students.The program started with an initial address of Dr Ramis M K, who emphasized on the need of acquiring a skill in any of the industry oriented domains during their course, which will help the students to place themselves by the time they are out. During the seminar, Mr. Mithun threw a limelight on various aspects of piping courses offered by the Petrocon Institute of Piping Engineering and the opportunities that are available in piping industries after completion of the course. Side by side he gave a brief introduction on how the softwares and training manuals are exercised during the period of training. Some of them included applying parameters as per rules and regulations given by certain institutions like ASME & ASTM, development of piping layout, development of GA Drawings, Piping isometrics etc. The lecture turned out to be very beneficial to the students present over there, many of whom decided to malign their interests in this section of engineering.

Talk on "ELECTRIC CURRENT INDUCED LONG RANGE FLOW OF LIQUID METALS-TAKING SERENDIPITY TO TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT FLOW"

Mechanical Engineering Association organized an Invited Talk on "ELECTRIC CURRENT INDUCED LONG RANGE FLOW OF LIQUID METALS-TAKING SERENDIPITY TO TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT FLOW" on 6th -February 2016. Speaker of the day was "DR PRAVEEN KUMAR"(Asst. Professor at Dept of Materials Engineering; IISc Bangalore). The program was hosted by Mr. Ahad of VI Sem. Dr Sharief (Principal), Dr. Ramis M.K (Vice Principal), Dr. Zahid Ansari (Dean-Research) were the other dignitaries present. The talk highlighted the importance of serendipity in technological development and discoveries.The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Muhammad ibn Abdul Nasar of VI Sem.

Talk on “Recent Advancements In Defence and Space Resources”

On February 3rd, a renowned personality and former Principal Dr. S.A. Khan visited P.A. College of Engineering, Mangalore to deliver an Invited Talk on “Recent Advancements In Defence and Space Resources”. Dr. S.A. Khan who is currently a Professor at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Kuala Lampur has also worked in Defence Research And Development Organisation (DRDO). During his seminar, he threw a limelight on concept of micro-jets to control the base pressure and jet noise, missile modifications for enhanced performance, unguided rockets etc. Dr. Khan also gave a brief overview of his contribution to the DRDO such as the alterations he made in the missile and rocket to adapt longer trajectories. At the end, he talked about his ongoing research at IIUM, and developments being made with the rise in modern era of science and technology. The programme was then followed by Principal Dr. Abdul Sharief‘s speech. He thanked Dr. Khan for giving his valuable time out of his busy schedule and parting with his great knowledge. The Director of Academics Prof. SurfrazHashim, Dean Research Dr. Zahid Ansari also gave their concluding remarks. The Vice Principal & HOD of Mechanical Department Dr. Ramis M.K. finally thanked the esteemed guest for sparing his time and knowledge for the sake of students present over there.

A series of workshops entitled “Catalyst: preparing for the capstone project”

A series of workshops entitled “Catalyst: preparing for the capstone project” were conducted by Dr. Zahid Ansari, Dean (Research), P.A. College of Engineering from 14th to 20th October 2015, to motivate the final year students of CSE/ISE, E&C,EEE, Bio-Tech, Civil and Mechanical engineering departments, to do the quality project and unleash their skills. The series of program culminated on 20th October 2015 with the last workshop at Mechanical department with wise words for the students to improve the quality and bring innovation by the HOD Mechanical and Vice-Principal Dr. Ramis M.K.. The Valedictory of the program witnessed the words of Principal Dr. Abdul Sharief for the funding aspects and IT tools, in presence of Vice-principal Dr. Ramis M.K, Director (Academics) Prof SurfrazHashim J, Dean (Research), Dr. Zahid Ansari and Prof. Ahmed Rimaz R. Faizabadi.

A three day workshop on Industrial Automation

A three day workshop on Industrial Automation was held on 2nd,3rd and 4th of October 2015 for the pre-final and the final year. The training was conducted by Mr. Himanshu Kumar, INDWELL Institute of technology.

The inaugural function of MEA

The inaugural function of MEA for the academic year 2015-2016 took place on 26th of August.Dr. R P Reddy, Principal BIT Mangalore was the chief guest and Dr. Abdul Sharief presided over the function which formally introduced the office bearers of the new year and also laid down plans for the year ahead. Events to take place were shortlisted.

Events on World Students' Day

On 15th October 2015, Mechanical Engineering Association (MEA) of P.A.College of Engineering organized events on World Students' Day honouring former President on India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on his birth anniversary. Events conducted by MEA included Technical Quiz , Elocution, Perspective and sketch with overall participation of 120 students. The prelims were held on 14th of October followed by finals on 15th. The events concluded by a valedictory ceremony on 15th October. The ceremony was presided by the respected Principal Dr Abdul Sharief. Introduction was given by Sheikh Anas followed by welcome speech from MEA President Subhan Ali .Principal Dr Abdul Sharief and Vice Principal Dr Ramis MK enlightened the students with leadership, dedication and vision of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam . Prizes to winners of events were given by Principal and Vice Principal. Vote of Thanks was delivered by ImaadShiekh.

Techxpo 2015

Mechanical Engineering Association [MEA] of PACE organized Techxpo 2015, an Automobile Engineering Show (Technically Oriented Exhibition, Seminar and Workshop) on May 8th and 9th, 2015. The main intention of the event was to exhibit the advances in the automobile industry and provide a platform for technically inclined students /others to interact, sharpen and share their ideas. The seminars, workshops, stalls and exhibits during the program focused on this theme. The audience were students from 25 engineering colleges, around Mangalore, mechanics, technicians and automobile consultants in this region. Also the venue provided an opening for people interested in the latest technologies in automotive industry, to study and explore the market. The total number of participants were in the range of 1000+, which included students from other engineering colleges, invitees from garages in and around Mangalore. Indoor Exhibits on Latest Technologies in Automotive Industry, Outdoor Exhibits and Stalls on Modified and Vintage Cars, High Performance Lubricants and Turbine Technology was the major attraction of the event. The. Free Auto Diagnostic Scanning for New Generation Cars (Cars with OBD 2) was a major event open for the public.. Mr. Sushil Chandra Mannagudda (GM, MRPL) inaugurated the function and the Technovation Award and Techxhibit Award was distributed for the best project and best car, respectively by Mr. U.T Khader, Honble Minister for Health, Govt. of Karnataka, during the valedictory function. The bike stunt show cased by Zero Gravity was the major attraction witnessed by thousands of audience during the valedictory function.

LAUNCH, the leaders in automotive diagnostics, and Mobil 1, the world’s largest synthetic oil and Candour Auto Tech (CAT), a team of passionate automobile engineers who are specialised in vehicle diagnostics were the official partners of the event. Mr. Schichun Tao (Sales Director, Asia Pacific, Middle East, North Africa and Latin America, Launch Tech Pvt. Limited),Mr. Joy Yan (Sales Manager, Launch Tech Pvt. Limited, India), Mr. Sasi Menon (Retail Head, Mobil 1) and Mr. Shamnas Mohammed (Technical Expert and Managing Director, Candour Auto Tech Pvt. Limited) were the representatives of the official partners who were actively present throughout the program. The following seminars were conducted during the event.

ENTICE 2015

ENTICE 2015, inter-college technical fest organized by MEA was conducted simultaneously with TECHXPO-2015. Its main aim was to give students a platform to showcase their technical talents. The events included Paper Presentation, Technical Quiz, Technical Dumb Charades and Robo Wars.

Workshop/training on STAR CCM software

A three day workshop/training on STAR CCM software was conducted by CD Adapco, giants in the field of CFD software during 6th,7th and 8th of January 2015 for pre final year and final year students.

A seminar on diagnostic techniques in automotive industry

A seminar on diagnostic techniques in automotive industry was conducted by Mr. Shamnas, consultant to automotive industries on 5 November 2014. The session was for the 3rd and the 4th year students.

Training program

Two weeks certified training program was conducted by Manjunatha design and solutions on “CATIA-Version 5.0 – Basics, Designing, Modeling and Analysis” during January 1-15, 2014 for pre-final year and final year students.

During my stay at PACE, participating and organizing several intra-collegiate and inter-colligate events - technical and non-technical, have given me an opportunity to develop my leadership, team work and communication skills. Continuous guidance and motivation from teaching and non-teaching faculty helped me to work towards achieving my goals. The high standard lab facilities enriched my practical and technical knowledge.
