P. A. College of Engineering Library and information center is not only mere treasure house of information but also laboratory of knowledge and nerve center of intellectual activity of our institution. It is located in spacious Independent block with area of 11,524 sq.ft.

Library Collection

At present the library has 31,953 volumes of books covering all branches of engineering and reference books like encyclopedia, hand books, dictionaries, GATE, GRE books & literature books. In addition to the library 1051 project reports, 1033 bound volumes of journals and also ITDP Book bank collection of 1019 books.

E-Journals and magazines

The library subscribes following online journals and 30 printed copies of national and international journals, 11 technical magazines, 26 general magazines , 12 newspapers .which is useful for general reference as well as research works.

Membership

The institution has ILL facility and also institutional membership of DELNET, VTU and e-VIDYA.

Library Systems

The library follows OPEN ACCESS systems. Books and bound volumes are classified and catalogued according to DDC 21 & 22 and arranged accordingly.

Library Automation

The library is entirely computerized using Easylib Library Automation software to facilitate manage and search of library resources. Computers are provided for OPAC, by using it readers can easily locate the title, author, location of the books and also to know the status of the books, arrivals of journals and magazines etc. The books and readers cards are bar-coded to speed up the circulation works.

Digital Library and Internet

The library has internet browsing area for browsing e-journals. The institute also has an intensive Digital Library consisting of around 3130 CD-ROM's which can be viewed in the library as well as copy the contents.

Web based Digital Library System is also functional in our college library by using Techfocuz Digital Library 4.0 Software. In which staff and students can share their articles, downloaded files and utilize the Library repositories like Book CD/DVD’s and journal CD/DVDs, Syllabus copy, Question papers, paper clippings, PACE photo albums and all other forms of digitized information at whole college campus. This system can be accessed by pointing the Web browser 172.22.44.254 and CD emulator software.

Accessibility to students

  • Digital Library 10 systems installed and Internet/Wi-Fi enabled: for better accessibility and increased utilization of the library facilities, the e-journals of the Library made accessible through the IP based connections LAN/Wi-Fi within the campus.
  • Every semester, the library adds new edition of books and journals. Thus Institute gets the all reading material well in advance of the commencement of academic year.
  • Every student is allowed to borrow books (3 Books for P.G Students & 2 for U.G Students) for issue/return. Students and staffs can browse e-resources at any time during the working hours at the Digital Library Section.
  • The library has other facilities such as ITDP Book Bank facility Inter Library Loan facility.
  • The Library is open to the users on working days from 8.30a.m to 8.00 p.m.

Library Facilities

The library has ample reading facilities with a seating capacity of 200 students. The library offers photo copying and binding, Document Scanning facilities to the readers at low nominal cost. College Book bank facilities provided to the students and staffs and Book Bank facilities for SC/ST students also available.

General Library Rules:

  • A person desirous of using the library shall enter his/her name, address and time of entry legibly and put signature in the register kept at the entrance for the purpose
  • Strict decorum and discipline must be maintained in the Library. Users must ensure that Rights of other users of the Library are not breached in any way by their own acts of Commission or demission.
  • Use of Cell phones is not allowed. If readers wish to keep them while using the library, they must be switched off.
  • Eating, Sleeping and talking loudly are strictly prohibited in the Library
  • A non-member can use the library materials in the Library premises with the permission of the Principal/Librarian.
  • Readers must not bring sticks, umbrellas, briefcase, boxes and other such articles into the library. They may be deposited at the Library property counter. The users are advised not to leave expensive items with the property counter.
  • Documents taken out of the shelves must be left on the issue table. Replacing the Documents on shelves by users is not encouraged as the documents may get misplaced.
  • Readers should not mark, underline, write, or tear pages or otherwise damage the library documents.
  • Readers are requested to handle all Library property carefully to avoid damage to it and also not to disturb other readers/users.
  • No Library material can be taken out of the Library without permission of the Library staff.
  • Photocopying service is available for bonafide members of the library at nominal charges. All photocopying must comply with copyright Legislation
  • Some items in the Library cannot be copied because of copyright laws, poor condition, or donor restrictions.
  • The discretion/decision of the Principal/Librarian on any matter pertaining to Library services will be binding on the Library users
  • Anyone who violates the rules and regulations of the Library may be debarred from using the Library facilities or penalty.
  • The Librarian, with the approval of the Principal, reserves the right to add, delete, or modify any of these rules as and when required.
  • Suggestions on all aspects of library services are welcome

Loan Privilege

  • Two books are issued for two weeks and they must be returned on or before the last date stamped on the date-slip of each document. Sending Reminders to defaulters are not obligatory on the part of the Library.
  • The borrower should check the fitness of the document before getting it issued. Any discrepancy should be brought to the notice of the person at the circulation Counter who will put necessary remarks on the document before issuing. The borrower will be held responsible for any defect/damage found at the time of return of the document, if not recorded on it earlier, and will be liable to pay the penalty as decided by the Principal/Librarian.
  • Any document issued, may be recalled by the Library before the due date of return without assigning any reason and the borrower has to abide by the decision.
  • If a book is not returned within the loan period, issue of documents may be stopped and their library cards will be cancelled.
  • Late fee of Rs 1/-/ day/book would be charged from all the borrowers who retain book(s) beyond the due date. Principal/Librarian may exempt the late fee depending upon the circumstances of delay, any human error in issuing a book by the library circulation staff, etc.
  • Where books are not returned by the due date, then after the 3rd reminder the borrower will be charged cost of the book plus the fine and 10 percent of cost of the book as processing charges.
  • Borrowers can get the book(s) reissued on or before the due date in book return counter. Overdue books will not be reissued.
  • Books will be reissued for not more than one time. After that the borrower must return the book(s).
  • Reference books, journals/ periodicals, magazines/newspapers, CD-ROM databases and other documents declared ‘’For Reference’’ by the Librarian will not be issued.
  • Documents, belonging to ‘Reference’ category, are not issued.
  • Members can reserve the documents they desire to borrow by filling in the ‘Borrowers Call Slip’ Intimation about the availability of the documents(S) will be given to the members when they are available for issue. The reservation will be strictly on first-come-first-served basis.
  • The borrowers are advised to return the documents while proceeding on long leave.
  • A borrower is responsible for the safe custody and return of the documents borrowed from the Library.
  • In Case of manageable damage/mutilation of the document, the borrower will be liable to pay the amount as assessed by the Principal /Librarian.
  • In case of loss of document(s) irreparable damage/ mutilation of document, the borrower will be liable to pay the present cost of the book(s) and 10 percent of the present cost of books as processing charge and late fine, if any... In case of foreign publications, current exchange rates of relevant foreign currencies will be applied to calculate the cost of the documents. The member may also replace the lost/damaged book(s) by a new copy with same edition with 10 Percent of the present cost of the books as processing charge with late fine, if any. In case of single volume of the set cannot be purchased. In case of rare or out of print or valuable documents, the amount of penalty will be decided, a case-to-case basis, by the Principal. Replacement by photocopied version will not be accepted.
  • The Library membership may be suspended / cancelled at the discretion of the Principal / Librarian for any inordinate / unwarranted / unscrupulous act or illegal behavior of a member.
  • The Library members may request the Librarian in a prescribed manner for any document(S), not available in the Library, to borrow from any outside library on interlibrary loan (ILL) through DELNET. The Safe upkeep of the document received on ILL will be the responsibility of the borrower. Such borrowers will abide by the terms and conditions of the lending Library.

Digital Library Rules

  • Digital Library is to be used for browsing IEEE, ASME, Digital repositories, DELNET and other academic purpose only.
  • Online Chatting in the Digital Library is not allowed.
  • Browsing of Social networking sites are strictly prohibited. Strict disciplinary action will be taken against the defaulters.
  • Members are not allowed to carry eatables and drinks in the entire Library premises.
  • Members must carry their Library Reference card while using the Digital Library/Reference section. They must show their ID card on demand
  • Changing the settings and display of the Computers kept in the Digital Library/Reading Hall is not permitted.
  • Playing games on computers is strictly prohibited in the entire Library premises.
  • Members must take care of their Pen drives, CD/DVD ROMs, Cell Phones, and Wallets etc.

Note: In case of any matter / issues which are not enumerated above, the decision of Principal will be final and binding.

Staff

The library is maintained by well qualified 10 numbers of staffs and supporting staff. Thus our library plays key role in smart work of education and to build quality engineers. Having provided with abundant facilities to benefit the students, they are encouraged to use them intensively.
