When global society was fighting heavy odds to survive the recession, progress in the educational sector became relatively stagnant. But, as markets showed steady signs of improvement, it became quite evident that business management studies have emerged as the favorites for career-minded professionals.

The Centre for Management Studies & Research (MBA), P. A. College of Engineering under P.A. Educational Trust, Mangalore established in the year 2001 and has been at the forefront to establish a fresh direction for systematic management education. We are passionate of providing the best to our Students through consistent dedication in teaching the essence of management education. The department has the state-of- the-art computing and class room facilities, supported by an extensive library of books and journals, committed to offer high quality education programs in Management disciplines at Post Graduate and Doctoral levels. This Centre is located in the green and salubrious city of Mangalore.

We have experienced and committed faculty members under whose guidance and mentoring, students transform into professionals of world standards. We have signed letter of intent for academic cooperation with Austin University, California which incorporate job- focused management education and trains young men and women for great jobs in the global economy. The participants are offered internship/ training in the Silicon Valley from some of the tech world’s most innovative organizations such as Apple, Facebook, Amazon, Google and AT&T.

It offers MBA (Dual specialization) in Finance, Human Resource and Marketing Management.

Eligibility

Graduate in any discipline with 50% marks (45% marks in case of Karnataka candidates belongs to SC, ST and Category I). Students aspiring Government Quota seats have to appear for PGECET/KMAT/NEET/CAT/MAT/XAT/TANCET Note:Students aspiring Management Quota seats have to appear for any one of the above mentioned Examinations.

About Director

Dr. Latha Krishnan is a Post Doctoral Fellow from IIT Madras, Department of Management Studies. She was awarded Ph.D from Alagappa University in Bank Management. She has studied M.Com from Osmania University, and followed it up with PGDMM, PGDIRPM, MBA and M.Phil. She has 20 years of teaching experience and 8 years of research experience. Her Core competencies include people management, innovation & entrepreneurship,knowledge based application and articulation of skills, effective teaching pedagogy, coaching and mentoring, goal setting and performance management, passion for continuous learning and excellence and for imparting high levels of motivation.

Her research areas include entrepreneurship, small and medium enterprises, micro credit, and women’s empowerment and developmental studies. She has an effective style of pedagogy incorporating case studies and activities to make the subject content interesting. She is an enthusiastic teacher, caring mentor and a disciplined administrator. She has 5 years of Industry experience in a leading MNC in the areas of marketing research and Human Resource Development. She is a Member, Board of Studies, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Prashanthi Nilayam. She has presented several papers at national and international conferences, apart from publications in refereed journals. She is Research Supervisor for Ph.D students of Tumkur University and Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. She is a Doctoral committee member of Bharathidasan University, Trichy.

She has conducted various MDPs and FDPs and has been a resource person for time management, motivation techniques, emotional intelligence, transactional analysis, FIRO-B exercise for bank officials, junior engineers of JSW Steels Limited. She has provided Consultancy and Training services for KMC constructions and JSW Steels Ltd., on competency mapping and on key skill areas. She has also organized for the benefit of students, Global Certification Programmes in SAP- Business 1,R3, ICICI Securities and Birla Sun life Mutual Fund on subjects such as Financial Markets, Business Analytics and Financial Modeling.

CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAM FOR ENGINEERING STUDENTS

Dr. Latha Krishnan, director, MBA department, PACE conducted an interactive career guidance session for engineering students. The main focus of the session was to provide engineering students a sense of direction in the field of management. During the session Dr. Latha Krishnan said that in today’s economic scenario the competition is more forceful, nobody gives space to anybody whether it comes to education, career or jobs. For this reason everyone tries to upgrade their educational qualifications by various degrees to fit themselves in this professional market. An MBA after engineering expands your horizon and creates innumerable opportunities for an enhanced future. It has been borne out of experience that only skilled individuals can tackle the highly complicated and demanding nature of work that organizations undertake in this era of globalization and liberalization. Engineers have been known to be well-equipped with the inherent skill-set required for this transition. Raw engineering graduates need to possess a fine plethora of qualities such as communication skills, analytical and problem solving skills, decision making, conceptualizing, and interpersonal skills to become successful managers. She also added that as time goes by, it gets more and more difficult to land a secure position in the job market. It is more so for an engineer. An MBA degree on the other hand enables one to differentiate himself from the average crowd. Also, the job market today is inspired by individuals who possess abilities beyond the knowledge of their core subject and pursuing an MBA is the way forward. Engineers as managers perform very well in manufacturing and service industries. They have been seen to show interest in the defence forces and fields of content writing as well. MBA kindles the entrepreneurial skills of an individual which help him face the challenges of management with Ă©lan. Graduates of MBA engineering degrees have many career opportunities open to them. Adding the MBA degree with an engineering degree makes it more possible to utilize the engineering knowledge in almost any industry. Besides choosing the basic title of engineer, these graduates may also work in the capacity of engineering manager or industrial production manager, to name just a few. As of May 2017, the BLS reported that engineering managers earned an average annual wage of $124,870 while industrial production managers earned $89,190.

ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON MIND MAPPING PROGRAMME

A positive and healthy mind is the key to happiness and success. With an aim to help the students in building confidence and enhancing their talent MBA department conducted a one day workshop on mind mapping as on 21.4.2018 Surfraz J Hashim, Managing Director, Sadhana Mind Care, Mangaluru & Director (Academics) PACE was invited as the resource person and mind trainer for the session. During the workshop Surfraz J Hashim, enlightened the students about the power of their mind. He said that, Mind mapping is the first step to understand the miracle called mind and train it in such a way that one can make everything possible. The mind power management methods are based on both the latest international scientific discoveries & ancient Indian wisdom. It will help you to create miraculous changes in your subconscious mind, wipe out the shadows of negativity and fill yourself with the positive energy required for a successful and abundant life. The program helped the students to visualize the goals they desire & achieve it within minimum time. The resource person taught highly effective techniques to eliminate any negative thoughts, attitude and behavior that drags the students down to failure in life. Through this workshop students learnt to reorient their objectives as per the values, abilities and aptitude to design a successful life and career.

MANGALORE UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT FEST “CROSSROADS 2018”

A team of 12 students participated in two days management level fest cross roads 2018 organised by department of business administration. Haseeb Mohammed of IV semester won the best manager award. Finance Event the team reached the final round.

MBA DEPARTMENT SPORTS MEET

Sports helps an individual much more than in the physical aspects alone. It builds character, teaches and develops strategic thinking, analytical thinking, leadership skills, goal setting and risk taking The MBA department sports meet was inaugurated by Dr. Latha Krishnan, Director, MBA department, PACE by launching the new jersey on April 23, 2018. Dr. Latha Krishnan addressed the sportsmen, encouraged their active participation in all the events and also declared the sports meet open. The declaration was followed by oath taking Hakeem Javed , IV semester MBA proposed the vote of thanks.

PACE TIE UP WITH AUSTIN UNIVERSITY, CALIFORNIA

Under the initiative of MBA department, P A Educational Trust has recently entered into a tie up with Austin University , california by signing a MOU to provide an opportunity to its students to peruse global mini MBA. About the program This Global Mini-MBA is a One-month Program, and is uniquely designed specifically for enrolled students at Business or Engineering Colleges and for graduates with business or engineering backgrounds to give them the high performance Management, Marketing, Operation, and Finance skills of an MBA. CARPE OMNIA 1.0

Center for management and research MBA department, PACE had organized a post dinner session, Carpe Omnia in the campus on May 5, 2018 which emphasized on enhancing the students’ knowledge by giving them an exposure to the real life problems faced by the corporate world. Here, students were asked to tackle the corporate human resource related problems based on Harvard HR case review and depict the solutions for those problems in a creative way. The session was a fusion of both training and entertainment. It was a fun based learning, which imparts creative knowledge for the betterment and wellbeing of the students . Sessions like this not only imparts knowledge but also contributes to build problem solving ability within the students. It not only makes the students enjoy learning but also make them realize the beauty of learning .

Series-1 of the Carpe Omnia aimed at tackling the problems faced by human resource departments in the current scenario. There were four teams with the solutions for three major HR problems including excessive absenteeism ,boredom and labour turnover . First the team visionaries portrayed the causes for employees absenteeism at the workplace and solutions to overcome those problems with screen plays and role play. This was followed by innovators and mastermind performance depicting the causes and creative way to tackle such tedious tasks with small alterations in work environment .After the two teams performance there was a short break with refreshments the session resumed after short break with the mime and a skit by team brain stormers was conducted. At the end to cherish the students, there was a bonfire which added extra energy and enthusiasm to the programme to make it a ffunfilled one

IGNITE - MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION

Our department organizes number of activities under the banner of “Ignite” -the Management students association, a forum of MBA students of our Department. The various activities like personality development programmers, talents day, cultural activities, invited talks, sports day, food and fun fest etc are conducted in our department every year. The activities of the Department are listed below.

'Flames' - National level Management students meet

Our Department hosts a national level Management students meet every year. The 'flames' is conducted to kindle the flames of creativity, aptitude and administrative dexterity. 'Flames' aims at providing a platform to the participants from various management schools to exhibit their ability to practically apply their knowledge imparted by teachers and the manuscripts on management. The 'Flames' keep the desire of burning for excellence.

Talents week

Every year our Department celebrates talents day. On account of TALENTS DAY our department organizes one week activities named as “talents week”. The aim of talents week is to identify the talents of our department in different fields and provide a platform where our students can show their talents. The details of activities which are conducted during TALENTS WEEK includes Painting without brush, Pencil drawing, Painting with brush, Mehendi art, Cooking without fire, Rangoli, Flower arrangement, Kite making, Singing competition, Speech, Essay, B-plan preparation, Photography, Face Painting and Collage making.

Food & Fun Fest

Food and Fun Fest is one day fest which we organize every year to motivate our students towards Entrepreneurship. The importance of planning, promotional activities and other marketing mix elements, financial planning, time management etc are some of the area of training in this fest. Various Karnataka, North Indian and Kerala food counters and fun counters are part of the fest.

Anti-Drugs and tobacco campaign

Our department organises anti-drugs and tobacco campaign as part of training for our students on Corporate Social Responsibility. The aim of the campaign is to increase public awareness on the consequences of tobacco use and to increase awareness on the harmful effects of drugs.

Road safety week

Road safety week is one week programme which is organized by our department with the aim of bringing awareness about Road safety. This includes guest talk, signing campaign, handbill distribution, street play etc.

OBJECTIVES OF CONDUCTING ROAD SAFETY WEEK

The aim of conducting the campaign road safety week is

  • To promote the road safety measures in the community, schools, colleges, work places, on roads and etc.
  • To decrease and completely remove the road accidents, road accident deaths and injury cases by applying the road safety measures.
  • To encourage all the travelers to follow the traffic rules and wear helmets and seat belts while driving.
  • To implement the new preventative measures which are proved to lessen the risk of road accidents, death or injury.
  • To create awareness among the people about the speed limit of the vehicles to prevent road accidents.
  • To inform people not to drink and drive, not to drive when tired and not to use phones or radios while driving.

Social work wing

Our social work wing organizes number of outreach programmes with the intention of serving society. The activities under this wing are:

  • Career Guidance - For the Rural students and other poor students, our department organizes career guidance programmes.
  • Competitive exam training - Our department organizes competitive exam tarining for the interested students for the exam such as CIVIL SERVICE, (IAS, IPS, IFS), SSC, NET etc.
  • Medical Camp in the remote areas with the tie-up of Yenepoya medical college.
  • Aid for the poor students in the form of books and other required items
  • Visit to various old age home, Remote areas to understand the problems and to identify the solution for the same.

Our department organizes various events during Independence day celebration.

Team activities

Our department has four teams (Master Minds, Visionaries, Brainstormers and Innovators). The four teams host and participate in various activities on weekly basis. Points earned are the criteria for the champion team selection at the end of the academic year.

Sports day

Our department organizes one day sports meet of MBA student to motivate the sports talent of our department. The sports day events are classified as In-Door and Out-Door Events.
